OAKLAND SOLDIERS 28, THUNDER 25

The Tri-City Thunder opened Winter League AAU play with a tough assignment to match up with the league-host, Oakland Soldiers. Making the challenge more daunting was the availability of only five Thunder players. Despite the challenges, the Thunder gave a tremendous effort in a 28-25 loss. Playing with heart and efficiency, the Thunder battled throughout and trailed only 13-11 at the half. Late in the game, the Soldiers surged to 28-18 lead and looked to have the game in hand. However, the Thunder had no quit and reeled off seven straight points to close the gap to three points. In the last fifteen seconds, the Thunder came up with another steal and a chance to tie the game, but could not convert. Still it was an encouraging start to the season. Richard Pabalate led the way with 11 points, while Koby Silva added 8.
