THUNDER 54, CENTRAL VALLEY HOOPS 52

In the championship game of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk Jam, the Thunder were facing both adversity and a tough Central Valley Hoops squad. With only an hour between games, and having to switch gyms, plus losing big man Jared Nguyen for the day, and having Richard Pabalate and Koby Silva battling injuries, the challenge would be daunting. CV Hoops scored the first basket and led from the start in a closely contested game, but opened an eight point halftime lead. In the second half, things would become more challenging when Ramon Barragan fouled out with seven minutes left! The Thunder never quit though, and with three minutes left the comeback began when Tyler Lynch and Richard Pabalate nailed back to back 3's to close the game to two point. Then the team was able to tie the game with 28 seconds, which set up the dramatic finish. After a timeout, the Thunder called their Slam play. As expected, Pabalate beat his man and broke to the basket, and when he met the help defense at the rim, he turned and dished the ball out to Lynch who buried a shot with one second left to give the Thunder their first lead of the day and a 54-52 win. Pabalate would lead all scorers with 21 points, while Ramon Barragan added 16 and Tyler Lynch finished with 8. With the championship game win, the Thunder advance their record to 20-6 on the season.
