In their final U12 game of the season, the Thunder would need to play their best game to have a chance to compete with the powerful Elk Grove Running Rebels for the Hardwood Palace August Showdown championship. Fortunately the Thunder responded to the monumental challenge facing them and did just that. From the opening tip, the Thunder had the right focus and their starting five jumped to an 18-11 advantage after one quarter. The Rebels responded to tie the game midway through the quarter, but a late Thunder run helped them to regain a 26-20 halftime lead. Things tightened up in the third quarter when the Rebels closed the gap to 34-32 after three periods, and late in fourth quarter, Ramon Barragan would foul out and the Rebels were able to once again tie the game at 42 with two minutes left. That's when Hekili Jordan took over and scored the final six points for the Thunder that would prove to be the difference in a 48-45 victory. Jordan saved his best performance of the day for the championship game as he led the team with 16 points, while Barragan added 12 and Richard Pabalate chipped in 7. Its also worth noting, that the Thunder defense came up big on the final two possessions by the Rebels, especially Jordan Aguana who locked down the Rebels leading scorer who they isolated to try and get a tying bucket. With the great win, the Thunder claimed their 8th championship of the year and finished their U12 season with a 34-13 record. Great job Thunder Boys!
