In their final game of the Roadrunners Invitational Tournament, the Thunder Blue Elite squad would face the sternest challenge of the season in the #4 ranked San Francisco Rebels, a national power and well-rounded squad who entered as the tournament favorites. Making the challenge even more daunting was the fact the Thunder were playing without several key big men. The Thunder started out the game slow, quickly falling behind 9-1, and racking up some key fouls to several starters. However, Monty San Juan would spark the team with back to back buckets and provide a boost of energy, which allowed the Thunder to finish the half with some momentum by closing the gap to 20-15. In the second half, the Rebels size and depth began to take its toll and they opened the gap. However, the Thunder boys refused to quit fighting and stayed within striking range before ultimately falling by a 48-41 margin. Tyler Lynch would lead all Thunder scorers with 9 points, while San Juan and Atmar Mundu each chipped in 6. Despite the 1-2 tournament, the Thunder proved they can play competitively and beat some of the top D-1 teams on the West Coast. 2013 promises to be an exciting year for this up and coming AAU powerhouse.
